Happy Friday folks, Bradley Johnson here. Today we take a look at why the Namibian government is currently in the anti’s sight picture.
Namibia has announced that it plans to cull 700 game animals from national parks like Etosha.
Why?
Record drought
It wont be news to anyone here that anti hunters and animal rights activist are against any animal being taken, so I won’t get into that. Instead I would like to educate you all on why this is a very sound conservation move.
With the record drought you have two issues, low crop production for crops that the people depend on for food and very little water for the wildlife. It’s very simple, by culling animals back to carrying capacity the Namibian government can feed thousands who are starving while conserving the ecosystem.
Critics say the current political party (Swapo) is doing this as a political move to gain support in rural communities where they have lost support leading up to the next election.
And so what if this is a political move? More power to them, it’s smart for the communities and conservation.
Just remember, utilizing and animal shot in a clean and efficient manner beats the animal dying a slow death of thirst while people go hungry.
