Good evening everyone, this is your weekly Friday From the Field. Ladies and gentleman, it pains me to say that the state of Colorado legislature will move forward on a general vote to ban mountain lion and bobcat hunting. This means that it likely will appear on a general ballot in November.
This is a quote from the proposed initiative; “The initiative reads, in part: “The voters of Colorado find and declare that any trophy hunting of mountain lions, bobcats, or lynx is inhumane, serves no socially acceptable or ecologically beneficial purpose, and fails to further public safety.” Jul 4, 2024
This is a classic knee jerk reaction from people who cannot come to terms with the fact that death is part of nature and more importantly that sound and science based conservation tools like hunting will only make for a healthier ecosystem in the future. They cling to a fantasy where nothing dies and everything lives happily ever after.
Look, if you are subscribed to this newsletter and already utilize our services, I likely do not have to educate you on hunting as a conservation tool.
What I do need to say though, is that you need to be politically active and vote. I have personally never mountain lion hunted in my life(though I would love to in the future.) That being said I will fight to protect someone’s right to. Why? Because one day I will need the support of mountain lion hunters when a vote comes up to ban a form of hunting I enjoy and have a passion for.
If you sit back, read a headline on your phone screen while doom scrolling and say, “wow, that’s terrible” followed by inaction, we will not win.
Do not let a sport you hold dear to your heart vanish due to inaction, fight.
We currently live in divisive and treacherous times. Standing together as a whole is how we as sportsmen and women will prevail.
Get educated, vote, call your elected officials, make a difference.
